Position Summary:

In this position, you will focus on developing robust protocols and systems for the delivery of broadcast-quality video services under soft real-time constraints.  You will be a part of LTN Transport's core engineering and development team helping design and implement video services of unparalleled performance.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain protocols, systems, and tools to power a multi-continent network running highly available services with soft real-time requirements
  • Determine technical standards and specifications and lead the design, development, and deployment of core network services
  • Develop internal standards of services and software with a focus on performance, security, reliability, manageability, and observability
  • Develop and maintain ancillary network and systems services necessary to meet customers' needs


  • Minimum 3 years of experience developing, securing, integrating, deploying, and maintaining production systems
  • Computer Science or Engineering bachelor's degree; M.S. or PhD preferred
  • Experience in distributed systems design and implementation
  • Experience with designing and implementing network protocols directly on top of UDP or IP
  • Experience with IP networking, including routing and switching
  • Experience with developing flexible C code that can solve simple problems quickly and scale up to solve more complex problems
  • Ability to share knowledge and teach other team members
  • In-depth and proactive communication and documentation skills
  • Initiative and ability to work independently, and as part of a team
  • Ability to use a wide variety of open source technologies

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with IPv6
  • Experience with TCP programming
  • Experience with RPC and REST APIs
  • Experience with soft or hard real-time systems
  • Experience with embedded systems
  • Experience with Python
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Bash and Shell
  • Experience with Puppet
  • Experience with virtualization and containerization

Supervisory Responsibility:           N/A

Work Environment:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phone, and printers)
  • Monday to Friday schedule
